I've been running for as long as I can remember. My dad served as a track and cross county coach when I was growing up so I have been around the sport for nearly all my life. It wasn't until Junior High that I began running competitively.
I started running because I always wanted to be just like my dad…who ran marathons and coached cross country and track.
If I could no longer run, I would...I just hope that never happens. I love the people and sport of running.
My favorite run is on any trail through Rock Cut State Park. Trail running has added a new dimension to my training. Besides providing a great workout, the park also provides wonderful scenery. The park looks different with each change of season! I would rather drive 20 minutes across town to run trails at Rock Cut than “pound the pavement” just outside my front door. |
I like to run with my cross country teams and the Saturday morning Coyote Crew. The Coyotes provide a positive and encouraging environment for each runner…regardless of talent. I am proud to run with them each Saturday morning
When I'm not running, I like to work in my yard, visit my family in St. Louis, and root on the St. Louis Cardinals...sorry Cub fans:)
I am inspired by my father. He is still the wisest man I know, lives by the “Golden Rule,” and has an incredibly strong Faith. |

THE LOCAL RUNNER I ADMIRE THE MOST?...Besides Joyce Kortze and Larry Swanson (who have been very encouraging), the local runners I most admire are the members of my 2008 cross country team. Not only were they are a great team (placing 3rd in state), but they were also a true TEAM. Each individual genuinely cared for each teammate, worked hard, and had fun! I will always admire the sacrifice they made to each other… the fun we had along the way!

To push myself on a run, I just try to remember how much I will enjoy the shower, meal, and nap afterwards.
My greatest running accomplishment was completing the St. Louis marathon in high school.
My next goal is to finish the Hobo Triple Crown. |
